Fantastic Response from Creative Entrepreneurs will give London’s Young People an Inspirational Work Placement

So far, Workspace Group can confirm that fifty-six of London’s most cutting-edge entrepreneurs are taking part in InspiresMeWeek, which is the week commencing 14th November 2011.

InspiresMeWeek is an initiative made possible by Workspace Group’s collaboration with the GLA and with three Mayor of London Academies. The tired concept of ‘Work Experience’ being a week of photocopying and coffee-making will be completely blown out of the water by InspiresMeWeek.

Students from three Academies located across Edmonton and Bexley Heath will experience the cutting edge of London entrepreneurship. InspiresMeWeek deliberately coincides with Global Entrepreneurship week, an international celebration of those who go it alone in business. At Workspace Group, we are very excited to include local students in this global recognition of independence and ingenuity in the industry.

Every student will enjoy a one-on-one placement with an entrepreneur who makes one of Workspace Group’s many dynamic locations their place of work.

This inspirational week will constitute a marked change from the ‘old-fashioned’ work placement experience. Never before have such a volume of young adults had the opportunity to cut their teeth at the sharp end of business.

A range of business sectors are represented by the organisations that have volunteered to take part in InspiresMeWeek.

At Workspace Group’s London Bridge location, The Leathermarket, a participating student could work in Television Production with 90 Seconds TV, in Business Consultancy with Spring United, or in the field of Entrepreneur Networking with DreamStake.

The Parkhall venue in Lambeth provides the most eclectic mix of industries in one place. If a student is choses to work at Parkhall, they may be an apprentice Glass-Blower or Coffee-Roaster for the week, with Sandfish Ltd and Full Steam/Volcano Coffee respectively. Or perhaps they would be taken under Robert Mello’s wing, who is a Picture Frame Master-Craftsman.

Across London - at The Biscuit Factory, Kennington Park and Leroy House - the students could become involved in Online Suit Tailoring, the Gym and Fitness sector or Baby Clothing Retail. These opportunities are being provided by SABBS London, Pure Gym and Green Baby.

It is hard to draw similarities between all of the participating businesses, of which this blog has shared only a few, however there is one unmistakable uniting force. Every organisation that has volunteered to be part of InspiresMeWeek exists day-by-day as an entrepreneur in London, perhaps one of the toughest business environments in the world.

To aid the students’ learning experience during InspiresMeWeek a SourceBook will be provided. Put together by InspiresMe, the booklet provides the students with useful information about entrepreneurship, small business practices, and it suggests questions to ask their host entrepreneur.

Twitter

A value of entrepreneurship that the young participants will no doubt learn is collaboration. Without networking, collaborative thinking and mutual-innovation entrepreneurs would be stranded. Learning to interact within part of a wider community is paramount to success in business.

To enhance and promote this particular facet of entrepreneurship, students are wholeheartedly to get onto Twitter, use the #InspiresMeWeek hashtag and create a massive online conversation.

Of course, the students should check with their hosts to ensure that their tweeting does not disturb the working environment or impinge any safety regulations. However, students should rest assured that the doors to the Twittersphere are well and truly open during InspiresMeWeek.

Thank You

Workspace Group would like to take this opportunity to thank the 56 entrepreneurs who have volunteered to take part in InspiresMeWeek, and to point out the speed and enthusiasm with which they put themselves forward.

We hope that InspiresMeWeek genuinely inspires the participating students to become the business trailblazers of the future.
